Koivu Quartet

Koivu Quartet

The Koivu Quartet is the MUSICA NORDICA in-house chamber ensemble.  The quartet comprises four expert Scotland-based chamber musicians who share a collective fascination for the music of the North.  They also have a line in strange but beautiful Nordic instruments: from the nyckelharpa to the hardingefele, the kantele to the jouhikko.  Koivu is the Finnish word for birch: national tree of Finland and, in Celtic cultures, symbol of stability and renewal.

Gabi Maas, violin
Toby Hawks, violin
Elaine Koene, viola
Jessica Kerr, cello
